Piston, vane, gear and screw pumps serve different hydraulic and lubrication requirements. The correct choice depends on pressure, flow, speed, noise, controllability, fluid, duty cycle and the mechanical interface. Selecting only by appearance or nominal displacement can result in incorrect rotation, shaft, flange or port connections.
Piston pumps
Piston pumps are commonly considered when an application needs higher pressure capability, efficient power transmission or variable-displacement control. Confirm the control type, pressure setting, shaft, flange, port layout and case-drain arrangement.
Vane pumps
Vane pumps are often selected for smooth flow and lower-noise industrial applications. Single and double configurations can support different circuit arrangements. Check cartridge series, rotation, shaft, port positions and whether the unit is fixed or variable displacement.
Gear pumps
Gear pumps offer a compact and straightforward solution for many mobile and industrial circuits. Review working pressure, displacement, speed range, rotation, mounting flange and shaft carefully because externally similar units may have different interfaces.
Screw pumps
Screw pumps are useful where low pulsation and quiet, steady delivery are priorities, including suitable lubrication and transfer duties. Fluid viscosity, inlet conditions and operating speed require particular attention.
Information required for pump selection
- Original model and nameplate photo
- Required flow or displacement
- Normal and maximum working pressure
- Drive speed and direction of rotation
- Shaft and mounting flange dimensions
- Port size, position and connection type
- Fluid, viscosity and temperature
- Duty cycle, noise and control requirements
For replacement projects, provide photos of the shaft, flange, ports and installation space. A model cross-reference should be checked against both hydraulic performance and mechanical dimensions before installation.
YUYOU Hydraulics supports application-based selection across piston, vane, gear and screw pump families.
